Peter Island Review

Since my post yesterday I have been receiving many emails from people that are headed to Peter Island or have friends that are going for a honeymoon.  I thought I would share my review of the resort for all those making a trip this winter.  I have to admit that I had no part in booking or planning this trip it was all my fabulous husband.  I requested white sand beaches and clear water and boy did he deliver that and much more!
I knew Peter Island was nice but I was blown away by how over the top it was.  It is a private island off of Tortola.  You can either fly to St. Thomas and take the ferry or fly on the prop plane from San Juan and then take the ferry from Beef Island.  We did the later and I was very nervous about the prop jet.  The flight is only 30 minutes and you get an amazing view of the BVIs and the US Virgin Islands so I managed to stay pretty calm.  From the minute they pick you up and whisk you to the private Mariana for your ride to the Island everything is perfection.  The resort was only about 50 percent full since it was hurricane season but we had PERFECT weather for all 10 days.  I am glad we did not pick this week....
The resort was mostly filled with honeymooners and I understand why.  The island is so quiet and romantic even if you aren't on a honeymoon you feel like you are!  They offer a private day at Honeymoon Beach which I wanted to do but Pete vetoed because he claimed they didn't have the nice chairs there.  We later hiked to see it and they do have the good chairs.  So don't pass up this opportunity.  The staff will make you a picnic lunch and deliver it with champagne.   We did the day at White Bay Beach and that was fabulous as well.  The day we went we were the only ones on the beach and the staff made us a fabulous lunch complete with the fresh baked cookies. HEAVEN.  White Bay is known for the best snorkeling but I was freaked since I had seen a shark the day before so I stayed out of the water.  Pete did a ton of snorkeling and saw sting rays, turtles, and a barracuda.   The other trip I would recommend is the Thursday trip to Virgin Gorda with Joe.  You take a big sailboat and snorkel off Cooper Island and then snorkel the Baths on Virgin Gorda.  We went with some friends that we made and it was a perfect day.
I cant write a review of Peter Island without mentioning the staff and the food!  Everyone that works at the resort is AMAZING!!  I have couldn't believe how happy everyone is.  Its the type of hotel that by day 2 they know you by name and how you take your coffee and which newspaper you read.  There is a lot of hype about the french toast on trip advisor and its well deserved.  I don't even like french toast but Jean Kelly's creation is beyond.  It is without question the best breakfast dish I have ever tasted.  Other standout dishes for us were the conch fritters, the grouper, and the Cita Caesar salad.
The only thing remotely negative I could say about Peter Island is if you are a late night person this is not the place for you.  The staff takes the ferry home at 1030 every night so the bar and restaurant shut down.  Most people eat dinner at 7 or 8 and are in bed by 9pm.  Its the perfect place for a pregnant chick. ;)  Also the wine list is pricey.  You can BYOB for a $20 fee which I saw a lot of the young couples doing.  I would also suggest bringing wine to have in your room so you can hang after dinner when the bar closes.
In all Peter Island is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been and I am grateful to the amazing staff for making our stay one of the most memorable trips of my life!  If you are debating going for a honeymoon or just a warm getaway you will not be disappointed.  I'm already scheming how to get back next year!!!!!
